Euan’s Guide is one of Scotland’s quiet success stories, built not by large institutions but by lived experience, determination and a strong sense of community. Founded in 2013 by Euan MacDonald MBE and his sister Kiki, the idea came from a very real and personal challenge. After being diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease, Euan became a powerchair user and quickly discovered how difficult it was to find reliable information about disabled access when planning even the simplest day out.

What began as a simple attempt to share useful information has grown into a nationwide, and increasingly international, resource. Euan’s Guide is now a disabled access review website where people can search for venues, read honest reviews and contribute their own experiences. It covers everything from venues, cafés, festivals and community halls to transport hubs, visitor attractions and public spaces.

At its heart, the platform is built on trust. Reviews are written by disabled people, their friends, families and carers, offering practical insights that you simply cannot find on standard websites. This matters because research consistently shows that official accessibility information is often incomplete or misleading, leaving people unsure whether a place will meet their needs.

Euan’s Guide helps remove that uncertainty. By sharing real experiences, it gives people the confidence to try new places, participate in community life and travel further afield. In many cases, it is not just about convenience, but about inclusion and independence. The charity itself describes its aim as helping to remove the “fear of the unknown” when visiting somewhere new.

Importantly, the value of Euan’s Guide continues to grow with every contribution. Each review adds another piece to a much larger picture, helping others make informed choices and encouraging venues to think more carefully about accessibility. It is a truly community-driven resource, where every voice has the potential to make a difference.

There are many ways to get involved, from writing reviews and listing local venues to taking part in surveys that influence wider change. The message is simple. The more people who share their experiences, the stronger and more useful the platform becomes.

Euan’s Guide offers a practical way to support inclusion at a local level. By contributing reviews and encouraging local businesses to engage, we can help ensure that everyone, regardless of ability, has the confidence to get out, explore and feel welcome.

Check out Euan's Guide and please do help it grow by submitting reviews.
