Transport Scotland and Bear Scotland Have Agreed to Attend!
Garve and District Community Council
Added at 13:39 on 14 August 2026

After several years of raising well founded community concerns about traffic speed and road safety through Garve, and a considerable amount of email ping pong, there is finally some movement.
The Collision Investigation Review of the A835/A832 junction at Gorstan had concluded by February 2026, and we were promised a meeting with Transport Scotland by 31 May 2026 to discuss the findings. That meeting never happened. After further correspondence and intervention by Maree Todd MSP, who in turn sought the intervention of Alison Irvine, CEO of Transport Scotland, we have finally secured the long promised meeting.
Transport Scotland and BEAR Scotland will attend the next Garve and District Community Council meeting on Wednesday 2nd September at 7pm via Zoom. This is the meeting that the community has wanted and we have pushed and pushed for so please ensure you come along!
Transport Scotland has also now confirmed that the Review has recommended measures to improve road safety at the junction, including upgraded signage and refreshed road markings, with the proposed speed activated Vehicle Activated Sign in Garve included in the works.
This meeting is purely in respect of the traffic speed and to share information about the Collision Investigation Review pertaining to Gorstan Junction.
Correspondence pertaining is in our Road Reports file
This is entirely seperate from the Check Rail Corner long running {lack of} completed repair!
In terms of absolute transparency the content of the communication recived today, 14th August 2026 and dated 13th August 2026 is pasted verbatim below dates don't tally with previous letters recieved.
"Thank you for your correspondence of 30 July 2026 on behalf of Garve and District Community Council.
I appreciate the concerns that have been raised by the community regarding road safety at the A835/A832 junction at Gorstan and the desire to see improvements progressed.
I can confirm that Transport Scotland's trunk road operating company, BEAR Scotland, has completed a Collision Investigation Review of the A835/A832 junction at Gorstan. The review recommended measures aimed at improving road safety, including upgraded junction signage and refreshed road markings through the junction. The proposed speed-activated Vehicle Activated Sign in Garve will also be included as part of these works.
At present, the scheme is programmed to progress through the design stage during the 2026/27 financial year. Subject to the availability of resources and other commitments within the current works programme, construction is expected to be scheduled thereafter. At this stage, it is anticipated that the works are likely to be delivered in the early part of the 2027/28 financial year.
Regarding the request for a meeting with the Community Council, I understand the importance of maintaining a constructive dialogue with local representatives. Unfortunately, BEAR Scotland has no record of having received the request to attend the meeting on 4 August 2026, and I apologise that it has not been possible to respond to the Community Council before now as the review findings and associated recommendations were still being finalised and agreed.
I can confirm that Transport Scotland and BEAR Scotland will be attending Garve Community Council’s next meeting at 7pm on 2 September 2026, via Zoom.
I hope this information is helpful and provides reassurance that the concerns raised by the community are being considered."
