Highland’s Future Fire and Rescue Priorities

We have had an email this morning from Lynne Gow, SFRS Area Commander, sharing the consultation on the draft Local Fire and Rescue Plan for Highland 2026.
The plan sets out the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s priorities for keeping people safe, reducing risk and working with partners to improve outcomes for communities across Highland.
For communities across the Highlands, this is an important opportunity to have a say in how SFRS respond to the risks and challenges faced locally.
The plan is intended to reflect local priorities, risks and needs, support effective partnership working and help inform how the service is delivered over the coming years.
Why does this matter locally?
In rural and remote parts of Highland, communities can face particular challenges, including long travel distances, remote and isolated properties, severe weather, wildfires, road traffic incidents, flooding and other emergencies. Prevention, community safety and working effectively with local partners are therefore all important parts of keeping people safe and SFRS are so important in many of those challenges.
The Local Fire and Rescue Plan is an opportunity to tell SFRS what matters in your community and where you believe attention should be focused.
This consultation is an opportunity for local people and communities to have their say.
How to take part
Read the draft Local Fire and Rescue Plan for Highland 2026 and then share your thoughts.
SFRS says that, their consultation is open until 15th October 2026.
Afterwards responses will be carefully analysed and a summary of the findings will be published, including how the feedback has helped inform the final plan.
If you live or work in Highland, this is your opportunity to tell SFRS what you think the priorities should be.
