A832 night-time road closures beginning 24 August

In respect of the Western Isle HVDC Link we have recieved the following update today 12th August 2026, 16.30 from SSE.

Please see latest update on the Mainland Cable project.

Mainland Cable Project – Reminder: A832 night-time road closures beginning 24 August

In June this year, the Western Isles HVDC Link Project Team held community drop-in sessions in Aultbea and Dundonnell to share information about planned night-time road closure culvert replacement works in the Dundonnell area and answer questions from local residents and road users.

As these works are now due to begin, we wanted to provide a reminder of the upcoming traffic management arrangements and what local communities can expect.

The night-time road closure culvert replacement works will take place between 24 August and 4 October 2026 and are required to replace existing culverts ahead of future HVDC cable installation works associated with the Western Isles HVDC Link project.

Traffic management arrangements

To allow the works to be carried out safely, the A832 will be fully closed each night between 9pm and 7am throughout the programme.

A signed diversion route will be in place via Achnasheen and Garve during these overnight closures.

During daytime hours, the road will remain open under convoy-controlled traffic management through the work area. Advance warning signs and variable message signs (VMS) have been installed to help road users plan their journeys.

Access and emergency arrangements

Emergency access will be maintained at all times throughout the works using agreed emergency procedures and temporary crossing arrangements where required. Further detail of these arrangements can be found within the booklet on our project web page.

What to expect

During the construction period, road users and nearby residents may notice:

Excavation and construction activity within the work area
Construction plant and equipment operating on site
Some noise associated with excavation works and occasional rock breaking
Daytime delays associated with convoy traffic management
We appreciate that these works may cause disruption and would like to thank local communities and road users for their continued patience while these essential improvements are carried out.
