Social Value Charter for Renewables Investment

Social Value Charter for Renewables Investment

Garve and District Community Council

Added at 11:43 on 12 November 2025

In June 2024, Highland Council approved the creation of a Social Value Charter for Renewables Investment, outlining clear expectations for community benefits from developers seeking to invest in renewable energy projects across the region. The Charter also defines how the Highland partnership – encompassing public, private, and community sectors – will collaborate to support and deliver these commitments.

The Charter’s aims are to:

  1. Embed an approach to community wealth building in to Highland
  2. Maximise economic benefits from our natural environment and resources
  3. Engage and involve relevant stakeholders to understand how we can continually improve our impact
  4. Unlock economic opportunities for the area

These aims are supported by shared partnership objectives set out in the Highland Outcome Improvement Plan and the Highlands and Islands Regional Economic Partnership.

The Partnership is committed to working alongside businesses and investors operating in the Highlands to ensure mutual success and, above all, to deliver tangible benefits for the people and communities of the region.

There is now a web page dedicated to this charter, for more information on how local groups can engage and benefit follow this link
