SSEN Transmission’s Western Isles Mainland Cable contractors will now commence culvert replacement works on Monday 20 April 2026 on the A832 approximately five miles south of Dundonnell.

These works had previously been planned to start earlier this year but were slightly delayed and rescheduled.

Over the next two to three months, the team will focus on Culverts 5 to 10, as shown on the location map available in the Documents section, with further maps attached to this email. Each culvert is expected to take around four to six weeks to complete. Where feasible, work may take place on two culverts at the same time to support overall progress and help minimise the duration of disruption.

Traffic management will be required during these works, with the single‑lane works operating as follows:

Traffic management and speed restrictions

A daytime single lane convoy system will operate during working hours, 7am -7pm, with operatives present on site.

Outside of these working hours, temporary traffic lights will control traffic through the works area. Contact information will be displayed locally should there be any technical issues with the lights.

A 10 mph speed restriction will be in effect through the immediate works area for the duration of the project.

A 40 mph advisory speed restriction will be in operation between Fain Bridge and the Cadha Buidhe compound area, to help slow traffic on the approaches into and out of the traffic managed section.

The traffic managed section will extend over approximately 500 metres at any one time.

Vehicle delays are expected to be no more than 15 minutes and often less.

One lane will remain open at all times to maintain access for emergency services.

We will continue to provide regular updates as the works progress, including information on future culvert locations as they come forward.

If you require additional information during these works, please contact the project team via the project email inbox: LT14mainlandcable@sse.com

In addition to the above works, we will shortly be sharing detailed communications regarding our night-time closures. This will be shared in the next two weeks.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation while these works are carried out.
